Jean-Claude Schwarz (né en 1947 à Lausanne) vit et travaille à La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Formé en architecture à Genève puis en urbanisme à Paris, il développe très tôt une sensibilité pour les structures, les rythmes et la relation intime entre forme et fonction. Cette attention au détail et au temps l’amène à rejoindre l’entreprise familiale dans l’horlogerie, où il crée en 1982 la marque Jean d’Eve, reconnue pour ses garde-temps innovants. En 1988, il conçoit la première montre à quartz sans pile, saluée par la presse internationale.
Cette période marque un tournant : elle forge un rapport profond à la précision, aux matériaux et au geste créatif — prémices de sa future démarche artistique.
En 2014, il se consacre entièrement à l’art. D’abord la peinture abstraite, où la couleur devient un langage émotionnel. Puis la sculpture, qui s’impose comme un prolongement naturel de sa recherche. À partir de fragments de bois, de racines ou de pierres collectés dans la nature, il explore les traces du temps, les cicatrices du vivant et la manière dont une intervention minimale peut révéler une présence intérieure.
En 2024, il développe la série « Trésors naturels », qui synthétise son parcours : précision héritée de l’horlogerie, lecture intuitive des formes acquise dans l’architecture, et profonde empathie pour la mémoire des matériaux.
Il expose en Suisse et à l’étranger et poursuit un travail où matière, temps et résilience se rencontrent dans un dialogue silencieux mais puissant.

This attention to detail and time led him into the family watchmaking company, where in 1982 he created the brand Jean d’Eve, known for its innovative timepieces.
In 1988, he designed the world’s first battery-free quartz watch, widely covered by the international press. This moment revealed his creative instinct and his fascination for materials and precision — foundations that would later nourish his artistic practice.
In 2014, he devoted himself fully to art. First to abstract painting, where color becomes an emotional language. Then to sculpture, working with fragments of wood, roots and stones collected in nature. His work focuses on traces of time, the scars of living matter, and how a minimal intervention can reveal the inner presence of a form.
In 2024, he developed the series “Natural Treasures”, which synthesizes his entire path: the precision of watchmaking, the spatial intuition of architecture, and a profound empathy for the memory carried by natural materials.
He exhibits in Switzerland and abroad, pursuing a body of work where matter, time and resilience meet in a quiet yet powerful dialogue.
